Encourage in-person social interactions among Gen Z to create deeper connection.
Company:   NCAD, Accenture The Dock
Team:  Tara Savage, Stephen Barun and Maria Akalata
Role:  Research, concepts, making, presenting
Time:   6 Weeks
Year:   2024
Research
I was in the ‘Third spaces: What are they?’ research group.
Research Methods:

Interviews: Conducted 12 interviews with Gen Z.

Observations: Identified third spaces around inner city Dublin, took photos and documented users.

Secondary: Looked through articles, documents, databases and searched for existing apps and events.
Key Research Insights
1. Existing social groups:
People find it difficult to break into pre-existing social groups.

2. Existing third spaces:
Already existing third spaces aren’t being used to their full potential.

3. Littering is public spaces:
Littering is a problem - people don’t want to stay in dirty spaces.
Concepts
All three concepts were prototyped and user tested.

I focused on the community committee app using Figma and the battleships cans was a group effort.

Our group generated 30 concepts but focused on 3.

Moved forward with Battleship Cans.
Prototyping Battleship Cans
Prototype 1:
Seeing if people liked/ understood the game.
Tested other games: Other game options - X’s and O’s with cans. We dropped the idea of X’s & O’s because the game ended too quickly for players to connect.
Prototype 2:
Made improvements & tested.
Tested an app as an add on to the Battleship Cans game.
Found that the app felt more like a barrier than a facilitator to Battleship Cans.
Prototype 3:
Build improvements for Battleship Cans.
Making
With our user feedback we went onto building our final prototype.
Deliverable
How it works:
Aim of the game: Guess where the other player placed their cans on the board. If you hit a can you ask a question from the top of the board. First player to guess where all the other players cans are wins.
Storyboard:
Service System:
Keep track of score by placing hit cans to the side.
Keep track of your moves on the smaller board.
